Faculty in IU’s Slavic and East European Languages and Cultures department comprise one of the largest and most comprehensive concentrations of expertise in the United States. Our faculty focus on three main research areas: literary and cultural phenomena, linguistics, and language pedagogy. In myriad ways, our research and teaching organically cross-pollinate on multiple levels—from aesthetics to phonology, mediation to context, and cultural and linguistic history to reception, interpretation, and the making of meaning.
Our faculty engage in a wide variety of research and outreach activities, from book and article publishing to conference presentations, readings, journal and book editing, and extensive sponsored research through major grant initiatives. They also serve on editorial and advisory boards for local, national, and international organizations in the arts, humanities, and social sciences.
