Michael Henry Heim Fellowship
The Michael Henry Heim Fellowship is a recruitment fellowship that enables our department to support two incoming graduate students. Endowed through a generous gift from Priscilla Heim in honor of her late husband, the eminent literary scholar and translator Michael Henry Heim (1943-2012), this fellowship honors his legacy and highlights our continued commitment to Michael Heim’s lifelong work.
Jerzy Kolodziej Excellence in Teaching Award
The Jerzy Kolodziej Excellence in Teaching Award was established in 2013 to recognize exceptional teaching by graduate students in our program, and is given to one associate instructor every year. The award was established in honor of Jerzy Kolodziej, long-time director of the Summer Workshop in Slavic and East European Languages (now replaced by its successor the IU Language Workshop) and mentor to many of our graduate student instructors.
Neatrour-Edgerton Fellowship
The Neatrour-Edgerton Fellowship is a one-semester award given each academic year to an incoming graduate student whose field of study is Russian. It honors both Elizabeth (“Betty Jo”) Neatrour, a former undergraduate Russian major at IU whose family established the scholarship, and the late Professor Emeritus William Edgerton, long-time mainstay of our programs in Russian literature and culture.
