This course introduces lyric verse as a concept and in its development through Russian literary history. In addition to key theoretical works on lyric, we will read many of the most prominent poems in the Russian language, from the pre-Pushkin period to the present day. Students will develop a full set of interpretive strategies for approaching, appreciating, and understanding lyric poetry. Readings largely in Russian.
