The IU Department of Slavic and East European Languages and Cultures congratulates Ph.D. candidate Ani Abrahamyan for obtaining the College of Arts & Sciences Dissertation Completion Fellowship for the 2023-24 school year.
Ani's research interests include the development of social sciences in Imperial Russia, the impact of ethnographic inquiry on Russian realism, and the representations of alternative communal configurations in fiction. In her dissertation, she examines the role of ethnography and criminal anthropology in literary depictions of marginalized communities, including Old Believers, petty criminals, and prostitutes.
